Jonas Eppert is a 27-year-old Democrat living in South Chesterfield with his partner, their daughter, and their two dogs.
As the Environmental Coordinator for Powhatan County, Jonas sees every day how local government decisions shape people’s lives and how often the process fails the very communities it is supposed to serve. His work has given him a practical understanding of what works, what doesn’t, and how systems can be fixed to serve people.

Paycheck to paycheck has become the new middle class. Families are paying more for less while facing devastating cuts to the safety net from Washington. Even with a college degree, traditional “pathways out of poverty” often lead to lifelong debt, and employers offering $55,000 starting salaries (Master’s Degree required) aren’t helping.

Supporting unions & expanding collective bargaining in Virginia
Extend collective bargaining to all public sector employees, including those often carved out of agreements such as student workers and legislative staffers
Ensure hazard pay covers all first responders, including emergency dispatchers, correctional officers, and detectives
Introduce legislation requiring employers to publish salary ranges in all job postings, ensuring transparency and fairness in pay

Provide free school meals, including breakfast and lunch, to all students regardless of income and continue these programs during the summer months
Support legislation to make universal Pre-K a reality across the Commonwealth
Increase or eliminate the cap on school support staff, especially those serving students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs
From Pell to Power: Ensure Virginia’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) receive funding parity with their PWI counterparts
Protect public schools and taxpayer dollars from being diverted to private or charter schools
